Introduction

Well it's that magical time of the year again....August. Not the most favorite month of teachers....well, I lie a bit. If you are a teacher who has truly been called to this job (and if you are, then you know that you had to be CALLED by a higher power), then you are also getting excited....but just a little bit.

August is bittersweet. It's the beginning of a whole new year - new kids, new lessons, a new outlook on teaching that is untainted by nasty parents, ignorant administrators and kids that get that....well, look on their face that you can just tell you are being compared to a TV show...and losing terribly.

August is also the END of that magical time of year that is summer. The time of the year where you can finally take out that list and see what you need to do because you won't be busy making lessons, grading papers or drinking a (few) glasses of wine to forget what happened between the hours of 8 and 3. The time of year where you can breathe without getting that tight feeling in your chest that is the knowledge that you have ___ number of days before June....

But I digress....

I am again making an attempt at creating a blog that will not only being humorous and useful to my mental health, but will also help others....maybe. In being a teacher, I obviously feel like I have things to say that are important....but that is only my opinion. I really wanted to make a VERY anonymous blog about what it is REALLY like to be a teacher in today's public school systems but after seeing what is happening to people and their jobs when it comes to opinion, I figured I would try this instead. But it's a huge part of my life...trust me, it will come up. No names or details...but it will come up.

I want to write about a lot of different things....how to save money, how to fix stuff, how to take care of yourself and others around you. I feel like these are important things....

My husband and I are both teachers. In case you don't know, we are NOT paid well. Don't get me wrong, some teachers make very good money...in states with a union. We aren't in one of those states. My husband and I both started in a district where the TOP pay...for someone with a bachelor's degree...was $56,550....and that's after 30 years of service. Now is that really fair? So a lot of this blog will involve the things that both he and I do to save money on bills, groceries, cleaning supplies, etc. I also try to be as "green" as possible so I am sure that will show up as well.

It's hard to live in such a materialistic and self-centered world sometimes, especially when you aren't a materialistic person....and you are a teacher....so in the words of my dear mother, that's why.....good taste is such a drag...
